Jagdish Dey was born in 1942, at Bangladesh; Graduated from School of Art, Delhi polytechnic in 1963, Faculty member, College of Art, New Delhi from 1965-2002; Awarded AIFACS Awards in 1969,1982, Sahitya Kala Parishad’s Award in 1981,82,89, Senior fellowship awarded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, overnment of India in 1998, National Academy Award by Lalit Kala Academy,2000. He has painted transformed landscapes, figurative representations, man and woman in a variety of moods. Another constant feature in his works is the peacock. It is seen in the company of female figures, and acts as the means of communication, between the figures.
